The inspiration for the mural came from Carrie Dann of the Western Shoshone tribe. Her land was taken from her by the federal government through gradual encroachment and a piece of advice she told us was to , "Know your history, it gives you strength." I was very moved by that statement and thought our community could benefit from her advice.

Safe and Fear Free Environment hired me to work with teens and to spruce up the town. This is what we came up with. I painted the large pictures and more than 200 community members came in to contribute their own block of community spirit. The project was titled, "Paint Your Name On Dillingham" advocating as a community reminder for the 40 developmental assets that will help our youth succeed.
